On May 14, CNAPS hosted Robert “Skipp” Orr, chairman of the board of the Panasonic Foundation, for a presentation entitled “Japanese Politics Today and the Impact on U.S.-Japan Relations.” Dr. Orr discussed the current state of affairs in Japanese politics, the upcoming general elections, and the economic climate in Japan.

Dr. Orr’s career has spanned U.S. Government service, academia and the corporate world. Currently he is Chairman of the Board of the Panasonic Foundation. He has spent 25 years living and working in Japan and Europe. Past positions included President of Boeing Japan, Vice President and Director of European Affairs for Motorola N.V./S.A., Vice President and Director of Government Relations for Motorola Japan. Dr. Orr’s book The Emergence of Japan’s Foreign Aid Power won the 1991 Masayoshi Ohira Prize for best book on the Asia Pacific region. Dr. Orr earned his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Tokyo.
