Discussions of inequality have dominated the news cycle this campaign season, but one critical and relevant policy issue has been conspicuously absent. Disparities in education access and quality have been largely ignored by those seeking elected office at the federal level, and by the national media, to the detriment of under-served communities. How do race and income level factor into education opportunities in present-day America? And why hasn’t education been a bigger part of the national dialogue, especially during this election cycle?
On June 8, the Brown Center on Education Policy at Brookings is hosting a public event to discuss issues related to the intersection of race and education in 2016. A panel of community leaders and education experts will discuss the importance of seizing the opportunity afforded by the ongoing national dialogue around racial and economic inequities to bring education issues to the forefront of policy debates.
After the session, panelists will take audience questions.
This event will be live webcast. Join the conversation on Twitter at #EducationDisparities.
