Statement of Purpose
The Robert S. Brookings Society is the premier forum for emerging young leaders and professionals to engage with experts from the Brookings Institution on the most critical local, national, and global policy issues of the day. Established in 2012 and currently comprised of over 80 individuals, the Society’s purpose is threefold:
- To provide leadership, build community, and add members’ unique perspectives as the Institution confronts current and future public policy challenges.
- To contribute to the intellectual rigor of Brookings’s scholarship through the exchange of ideas and active participation in public policy discussions.
- To serve as benefactors to the Institution providing critical unrestricted support of its mission.
Guiding Principles
The Society’s Guiding Principles embody and support the five goals of the Institution’s Strategic Plan:
- Tighten focus: Society donors bring unique perspectives that enhance Brookings’s ability to identify and build dynamic programming that is relevant to today’s most urgent policy discussions.
- Enhance impact: The Society provides a platform for reaching the next generation of leaders and decision makers, leveraging their experience, knowledge, networks, and expertise to maximize the Institution’s impact among new, younger audiences in the twenty-first century.
- Promote collaboration: The Society convenes an international network of young philanthropists committed to collaborating on smarter, more meaningful public policy solutions through dialogues with the world’s leading scholars and a diverse array of key stakeholders.
- Advance inclusion and diversity: As a bridge between generations, regions, and industries, the Society gives visibility and voice to variety perspectives from diverse communities.
- Reinforce efficiency and sustainability: The Society invests in the long-term success of Brookings, not just through donations but also through its enthusiastic and engaged commitment to optimizing a growing and sustainable community of younger donors and leaders.
